At Setfords, people are at the centre of everything we do. We’re proud to have created a workplace where culture isn’t just talked about – it’s lived, supported, and continually improved.
That’s why we’re delighted to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for a UK Company Culture Award in the category Best Workplace Health & Wellbeing Awareness Initiative. This recognition celebrates the work we’ve done through our comprehensive Setfords for People programme, supporting the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our head office employees.

Who we are
Setfords is a national law firm with a consultant-led model designed to give lawyers the freedom and flexibility to work on their own terms. But while our consultants operate remotely, our success is supported by a central team based in Guildford – from admin and compliance to People & Culture, marketing, and finance.
It’s this dedicated head office team that powers the day-to-day running of the firm and supports our 600+ lawyers nationwide. The Setfords for People initiative was created to support them in return.
About our initiative
Setfords for People is a multi-faceted programme focused on creating a culture of care, support, and development. It addresses wellbeing in the broadest sense – spanning physical and mental health, career growth, inclusion, community and more.
Some of the key initiatives include:
- Mental health support
A team of trained Mental Health First Aiders provides peer-led support, alongside regular wellbeing sessions and open feedback channels. - Events that bring us together
From yoga classes and book clubs to dog-friendly office days, social events, and cultural celebrations, there’s something for everyone – promoting connection, stress relief and inclusivity. - Targeted career support
Our Rising Stars mentorship programme helps team members grow and progress in their careers, while the Management Academy gives managers the tools to lead with confidence and empathy. - Onsite facilities
Our Guildford office is home to an on-site gym with access to personal trainers and a free bistro offering healthy meals and snacks – promoting everyday wellbeing in practical ways. - Looking to the future
In 2025, we’re launching Setfords for Women, focusing on women’s health and wellbeing in the workplace, as well as a new Financial Wellbeing Programme with expert-led sessions on money management and planning. - Employee-led culture
Employees are empowered to shape our culture through active committees – including the Green Team, Diversity Champions, and the AI and Emerging Tech Group – which meet quarterly to drive new ideas and initiatives.
“We’re committed to building a workplace where everyone feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. This nomination is recognition of the incredible efforts of our team – and we couldn’t be prouder.”
– [Suzy Blade, Director of People & Culture]

Why this means so much
To be shortlisted for a UK Company Culture Award is a proud moment for all of us at Setfords. It’s a meaningful acknowledgement of our belief that wellbeing isn’t a one-time campaign – it’s an ongoing commitment.
The legal sector can be high-pressure, but we know that when people feel genuinely cared for, they do their best work. That’s why we’ve invested so much into building an environment where support is real, feedback is valued, and culture is constantly evolving.
This recognition reinforces our belief that law firms can – and should – do things differently.
Shining a light on our work culture
The process of entering these awards has given us the chance to reflect on how far we’ve come – and where we want to go next. It’s shone a spotlight on the incredible contributions of our head office team and reminded us how much can be achieved when wellbeing is placed at the heart of an organisation.
We’re honoured to be recognised alongside so many brilliant companies and inspired to keep pushing boundaries when it comes to workplace culture.
