To be recognised for one of the most rewarding and heartwarming partnerships we’ve had as a business at this year’s UK Company Culture Awards is beyond special for our Redbrainers. We’re thrilled to be shortlisted in the ‘Best Charitable/Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative’ category, thanks to joining the Changemakers for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. It’s a testament to our team, who have blown us away with their commitment and compassion in supporting this vital cause.

Who are Redbrain

Redbrain is Google’s number 1 online shopping partner in Europe. We deliver sales on a commission only basis, achieving over £1 billion in incremental online sales for retailers in 2023.

A change for good

Alongside our dedication to performance, we have a core business value to ‘Make Each Other Better’, which was the inspiration behind us becoming a Pioneer member of Changemakers for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) Charity. The world-leading hospital offers expert care and is located near our business HQ. Changemakers is a network of visionary individuals and organisations who commit investment to transform the lives of BCH patients. A momentous decision for Redbrain, we embraced this initiative to engage our team for collective good and promote well-being, whilst supporting an important cause for the whole team.

The heart of Redbrain

It is fundamental to us that we empower our team to know that they can each make a positive impact in their own way. With this in mind, we introduced a vast array of initiatives to support BCH charity throughout the year. We instated a ‘Redbrain Charity Committee’, who support bringing these opportunities to life for the team to raise funds or give their time to the charity. We signed up for a ‘Dragon Boat Racing Event’, formed Redbrain FC, (a 5-a-side football team who took part in two charity tournaments), volunteered our time (and green fingers) to help create a woodland walk at a hospital clinic and pledged £150k over three years to support the Changemakers vision. We also sponsored a hospital ward at Christmas with the priceless opportunity to dress as Santa and 4 elves delivering presents to the patients and their families.

The great cause and effect

To say this was embraced by all is an understatement; we’re so proud of the impact this partnership has had on our team. As a business, we’ve seen inter-team collaboration to bake cakes, play football, prepare grounds for planting, fundraise, race a dragon boat, cheer on their team, and celebrate. We all agreed the Dragon Boat Event was one of the most fun days we’ve had as a business.

There are not many initiatives that are totally inclusive and we’re thrilled everyone has engaged from graduates to CEO. In fact it saw Jared Owen, our Managing Director dressed as a pineapple for a day and Doug Scott, our CEO as Santa!

This focus on inclusivity and engagement has been echoed in the positive feedback we’ve received from both the charity; ‘Redbrain is an excellent example of a partnership, everyone is so engaged in our cause. We love team Redbrain!’ Dearbhla Craddock, Corporate Partnership Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, and the team ‘I really like our focus on personally important charities for Redbrainers and the deep relationship we have with Birmingham Childrens’ Hospital.’

What’s next?

We’re delighted to be included amongst the very worthy finalists for this year’s UK Company Culture Awards. We look forward to hearing all the inspiring stories of the organisations that nurture their key assets, their people.

Our focus is to continue supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, who have recently celebrated reaching their fundraising target of £1.5 million for the iMRI brain scanner appeal. This was achieved thanks to huge support from the public and the Changemakers contributing over a third of the funds!

The charity inspires us with their huge heart and dedication to their sick children. We’re grateful for their continued support helping us engage our team, and offering hospital tours to demonstrate the real impact of their kindness. Our Redbrainers will be taking on the Dragon Boat Event again this year and hoping to retain our event champion status, whilst being busy concocting lots of exciting fundraising and volunteering plans.
